Daily sports photo #204

October 25 – Family.

Well, I took a brief hiatus from posting (you did notice and miss the posts didn’t you?) because my best friend Brent of over 35 years came to visit. There are many reasons why Brent and I are friends but a solid cornerstone of our friendship is Baseball.

We have literally seen hundreds and hundreds of games together. The photo taken of us above (I’m the incredibly young and handsome one of the left) was in Omaha at the College World Series (CWS) in 2002. We attended the CWS for 11 years in a row. We stayed the entire series every year, regardless of the teams playing, and watched every game. This tradition followed a tradition of going to Florida for Spring Training for 9 years in a row.

That’s a lot of baseball but it was nothing compared to all the other professional, college and high school games that we went to. It was once said that if he were driving down the road and saw a stick ball game going on that we’d stop and watch.

We HAD to get together for a few metal heath days. It worked in part but the time together was way to short and there was an ominous absence of baseball.

There’s a saying that the family that you choose can often be more important to you than the family that you were given. I’m very thankful and so much miss many of my chosen family of which several of you are family members.

I encourage you to take a moment and smile as you think about the members of your chosen family.

Until next post, be safe, be kind and hopefully increase the size of your baseball family.

Please subscribe to the blog if you’d like to continue with me on my march down memory lane and get an entertaining sports story each day. Also, please comment and let’s get some conversations going.
