March 20: Look, up in the sky. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Super Keeper!
I braved the wind and cold today to shoot a boys soccer playoff game. It would be my first since 2019 (don’t ask me about 2020) and it was round two of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state-wide tournament with First Flight playing host to East Bladen High.
The game was very competitive, what you think a playoff game should be like.
At the half, the score was tied 0-0. First Flight scored first on a penalty kick. About 10 mins later, East Bladen tied it up again, 1-1. And that’s how things would stay at the end of regular play.
After the first 10 minutes of additional play the score remained 1-1. After another 10 minutes it was still 1-1.
Now we headed to two additional periods of 5 minutes each. The first 5 minutes passed quickly and there was no score. The fans were getting anxious. Would the game be decided by a shoot-out?
Time to start the final period.
With 3 minutes and 36 seconds remaining, a captain for First Flight broke through East Bladen’s defense just outside their goal and fired a cross-shot to the right that rocketed it’s way pass the out-stretched arms of the keeper and found home in the back of the net.
First Flight won the game and now heads to round three of the playoffs. And I finally got to shoot another boys soccer game. Baby steps, baby steps.
Until next post be safe, be kind, and go be a Super Man or Super Girl.
