Daily sports photo #332
June 6: Baseball is a game, it’s meant to be fun.
Ruh-roh, Raggy! There’s a rivalry forming.
As I’ve mentioned numerous times, one of the most “entertaining” aspects of shooting baseball is the opportunity to be in the dugouts with the players. Trust me, I’ve seen some sights, certainly hear some colorful language and stories, and yes, there are those smells. I’ll pass on elaborating.
The new trend apparently, as unveiled (at least to me) at game 4 of the NCBA WS are dolls, characters, something – not sure what to call them – that players place on the end of a bat to hoist high as a rallying cry. Now I have seen plenty of good luck charms, like Penn State’s Yoda doll, and trinkets but I’ve never seen these things.
ECU started things with their purple Unicorn (of course, there’s the newbie to the right that must wear a girl’s backpack). ECU was playing Nebraska and so, not to be outdone raised their Nebraska Football player cool, thingy.
GO BIG RED!!!!!
Not to be out done, Iowa State showcased Scobby-doo. Now that’s class. However, the best part was an Iowa State player doing play-by-play in the voice and character of Scobby-doo. Now that’s funny!
But the winner to me was a North Dakota player that, because the team doesn’t have a thingy I guess, hoisted a cleat on the end of a bat. I was laughing so much I missed the shot.
Kids and baseball. Ya gotta love it.
Until next post, be kind, be safe and ask yourself – would you do it for a Scooby snack?
