June 21: Old school.
Watching some NCAA CWS on the tube and feeling nostalgic, longing for the days of games past. My friend Brent and I went to Omaha 11 years in a row. Went for the entire series. It didn’t matter who was playing, it was baseball. And for 10 of the years it was one of the best baseball venues I ever visited – Jonny Rosenblatt Stadium.
Man I love that park. I loved everything around it. The beer gardens., Zestos. Pure heaven (even though it was Nebraska, not Iowa). But no, the NCAA had to muck it up cause they wanted more money. So they built TD Ameritrade (yuck) and razed Rosenblatt. Sad. Criminal.
But then I think back on all the old parks that have come and gone. All the teams that moved. All the fans that were heartbroken. Change is inevitable. I’m sure Yogi had a good ism for the thought.
I still enjoy baseball as I remember growing up. On the radio and black and white photos.
When I saw this shot that I took in 2019 it opened the flood gates of memories. That’s a classic swing and drop of the bat. Just like I saw many times growing up.
OK, cue Elaine Paige –
“Memory, all alone in the moonlight.
I can dream of the old days, life was beautiful then.
I remember, the time I knew what happiness was.
Let the memory live again.”
Until next post, be kind, be safe and now try to get the tune Memories out of your head – if you can that is….
