August 25: Wax on, wax off!
Let me put on my analytical/philosophical hat on for a minute. Chip, I know, I know, it probably doesn’t fit well because I have a bighead (metaphorically speaking).
One of the most fascinating things about photography is that you can see what is there, but can’t be seen during live action. While shooting the First Flight JV soccer game yesterday, I noticed that the opposing keeper for Norfolk Academy had an extended follow through when he kicked the ball during a goal kick. I didn’t think too much of it at the time other than I’d like to try and get a good sequence of his kick.
So, that’s what I did. Back in the Man Cave I noticed his style and immediately heard the haunting words of “wax on, wax off.” “Who’s that? Is that you Mr. Miyagi?” I quipped. Fortunately there was no response. Otherwise I’d be writing this from a padded room.
But it is clear to me that the spirit of Mr. Miyagi was strong with this boy as he definitely was posed for the “Crane kick” should any opposing player enter his space.
I’m glad that I was able to see what I did not see. This is now one of my favorite shots from the game.
It’s good to be shooting again.
Until next post be kind, be safe, and be nice and no sweeping the leg.
